Jirovetz_Douglas_175University of Wisconsin Oshkosh alumnus and retired Office of Institutional Research Director Douglas “Doug” Jirovetz ’67 and MBA ’78, of Oshkosh, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, Aug. 14.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes and Crematory with visitation taking place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

When Jirovetz began work at UW Oshkosh in 1971 as a computer programmer, the campus had just one big computer located in the basement of Dempsey Hall. Jirovetz went on to serve in various data processing and information system departments before taking on the Institutional Research director position in 1998.

During his more than 40 years on campus as a student and an employee, Jirovetz was very active in Titan athletics, playing intramural basketball, water polo and softball as an undergraduate and later serving on and chairing the Faculty/Staff Athletics Advisory Committee.

Following his November 2000 retirement, he continued to support the University through his work with Learning in Retirement and the board of directors of the Alumni Association and the UW Oshkosh Credit Union.

“Doug was an amazing ambassador for UW Oshkosh who dedicated his entire life to the University,” said UW Oshkosh Alumni Director Christine Gantner. “Doug was one of our most committed volunteers and an incredible example for all of us. He will be greatly missed.”

A great believer in the value of a good education, Jirovetz established an endowed scholarship with the UW Oshkosh Foundation in 2004 for students with financial need. Contributions may be made to the Douglas C. Jirovetz Scholarship.
